A canvas veranda from Glass House Architecture turns a patio into a sunlit or shaded space. Fabrics come in a range of stunning colours and designs,
they are held in runners tight to the sides, and at the press of a switch you can control the sun, shade, and airflow, or open fully rain tight.
Every canvas veranda is designed to suit your terrace. You can choose a
large open span veranda, a lighter frame minimal design or a simple manual system. To the larger system you can introduce sliding glass and shutters, vertical screens and create a cosy glass room. LED lighting, and infrared heating is also available, and weather sensors will automatically close the canvas if you’re out when gale force winds arrive. Installed throughout the UK.

Frameless Sliding Glass Panels

Sliding Shutters

What is a canvas veranda?
A wall-mounted or freestanding aluminium frame with a retractable fabric roof. Open the canvas for full sun, close it for shade and light shelter, and add optional glass sides to turn it into a usable outdoor room.
What is the difference between a canvas veranda and a glass veranda?
The roof. A glass veranda has a fixed glass roof for year-round rain protection, while a canvas veranda has a fabric roof that retracts fully open to the sky. Glass suits all-weather use, canvas suits sun control.
Is a canvas veranda waterproof?
The canvas is water-resistant and handles a shower with the roof closed and correctly pitched. For a space you can use in heavy rain all year round, a fixed glass roof veranda is the better choice, and we will always advise honestly on which suits your plans.
Can I add sides to a canvas veranda?
Yes. Frameless sliding glass panels, sliding aluminium shutters and retractable fabric side screens can all be added, individually or together, for shelter, shading and privacy.
Do I need planning permission for a canvas veranda?
Usually not. Most fall within permitted development, though homes in conservation areas or listed buildings can be exceptions. We confirm what applies to your property as part of the free design service.
