GEORGIAN OR VICTORIAN
Two period styles, one clear difference.
The quickest way to tell them apart is the front. A Victorian conservatory curves outward in a faceted bay with a steeply pitched roof, while a Georgian conservatory keeps a square or rectangular footprint with a flat front, symmetrical glazing and clean, even proportions. That shape matters more than it first appears. The rectangular plan of a Georgian design gives you full use of the floor, so dining tables, sofas and kitchens sit naturally where a bay would leave awkward corners. The style takes its rules from the same period that gave us Britain's most admired townhouses, and it suits formal and classically proportioned homes for exactly that reason.
We build Georgian conservatories with the discipline the period demands: correct glazing bar proportions, a properly hipped roof, and a clerestory above the doors where extra height will improve the room. Get those details right and the conservatory looks like it was always part of the house. Get them wrong and no amount of glass saves it. If your home has straight lines, sash windows or any Georgian character of its own, this is the style that will sit most comfortably against it, and we will design it to match the original architecture brick for brick.
